Taurence named to Team USA Roster for World University Games

Taylor, MI- Senior Center Nick Taurence ( Trenton, MI/St.Scholastica NCAA DIII ) has been named to the Team USA World University Games Men’s Ice Hockey roster. He is the first EMU player to play in the international competition since defenseman Dan Mayes played on the 2003 team. Taurence finished the 2012-2013 season with 23 goals 45 assists for 68 points. He currently has 15 points in 11 Games played for the Eagles this season. Taurence and his USA teammates, made up of 22 players and six alternates from some of nation’s top ACHA collegiate hockey programs, will travel to Trentino, Italy in early December for the 11-day tournament. ” It’s an amazing honor. I’m so excited to represent EMU and Team USA.” said Taurence, a senior who is majoring in Education. ” I’m so thankful for my teammates and grateful to my coach for helping me reach this goal. I hope it helps our program generate the attention we deserve at EMU and in the ACHA. I’m going to represent us as best I can.” he added. Head Coach Kevin Gee added his thoughts about Taurence: ” He’s a great kid, you know what you’re going to get every night. He loves hockey and always has a smile on his face. I’m extremely happy that he gets to experience international hockey.” Coach Gee was quick to add that two other players on EMU’s squad were also considered for Team USA: ” Bryan Kozlowski and Andrew Duff were also in the mix and are extremely capable players who could have helped that team. In the end, it wasnt up to me, but I’m sure the coaching staff will have the team preared for Trentino” he said.
